Cyn's Rabbit Hole

Random Thoughts by CokeyCyn

Generic Me.

When I was in college, I thought that I was going to be some hotshot activist little girl, who went out to the world and actually made a big difference. I was part of marches to the senate protesting the lack of justice for victims of violence. I was a member of the anti-establishment political party in school.

I even attended this *potentially* man-hating society-resenting course called WomaLit (technically Women in Literature but really, it was a Feminist course. "How our literature reflects society's imposition of limitations on women"), that I thoroughly enjoyed. [though this is potentially a bigger topic for another day!]

But here I am, slugging it out in the corporate world.

A generic "pan-asian with Chinese tendencies" girl of "average" height, in the over-congested world of middle management, in the ever-growing functional expertise of consumer marketing.

I drive the very generic corporate car of a Toyota Corolla, and read all the bestselling novels that pretty much everyone reads. I like watching movies. Favorite pasttime of the entire Filipino community.

I work long hours in a competitive environment, and I sometimes look forward to moving up in Marketing (though, honestly, the only definition of "marketing promotion" in this company is an in-store effort to get consumers to buy more. You'd probably get a blank stare from the words "promotion in marketing".) And besides... Even people closest to me have said "brand managers are a dime a dozen."

I'm playing the current fad sport of badminton, and like to wear U2, Bass, Nike, and occasionally Marks & Spencer. Oh except in badminton, when I wear my one and only pair of Adidas shoes. ;)

I am an average photographer, average badminton player, sucky golf player (of all the sucky golf players in the world ...), dabbler in piano and voice, and I've lost all touch at writing and drawing. I've also lost those bursts of inspiration that used to wake me up at 3 a.m. with the strong urge to just DRAW! or WRITE! NOW!

Quite odd where I turned out. I thought I was going to be a lot more different than this.

Hmmm.

tomorrow.

I'll think about being special me tomorrow. Maybe.

I think you're special, too.

The fact that you are where your are in life says something about you. It's nice to set lofty goals and to be inspired. But we do what we can and we can for those that matter.

Here's some perspective for you. My goal is to be a good father, and my inspiration are my kids.

We're all the same in the sense that we all want to be different. Divided we stand!

Very few people actually turn out to be what they wanted. What makes it harder is that the pressure's both internal and external. Society generally has lots of expectations, which in turn forms our own. In the end, we are almost always right where we don't want to be. Work hard and follow your dreams they say. I think that's partly crap. How many people do you know wouldn't work if their lives depended on it yet still made more than double what you made? Yeah, well in any case, people hardly ever turn out to be what they want. Case in point, Hitler wanted to be a painter when he was young, and later on, a Catholic priest. Gee, look what happened.

Call yourself what you may, but I would love to be Just Like You.
Love you
